DIRECTIONS TO JENSENS
LEDGES
One of our most
popular hiking destinations over the past several years has been
the Jensen’s Ledges area just off the Delaware River. This great
hike is less than an hour from downtown Honesdale and offers
some of the best views of the Delaware anywhere.
After a short
hike up the mountain (about 2 miles) you will be rewarded with
an amazing waterfall, outcroppings that raise you hundreds of
feet above the river basin, and plenty of opportunities for
picnics.
Take your time
on the way up and check out the local wildlife and local
vegetation. Enjoy the day and your time in the woods. As you
approach the top of the mountain turn right before crossing the
stream. Turn right and take in the amazing 400’ waterfall
spilling into the Delaware. This is truly on of the areas best
kept secrets.
Hop back onto
the trail and cross the stream. About 300 yards down the path
turn right and walk out onto the ledges. Take a look around -
you are on a rock outcropping jutting out over the river
hundreds of feet in the air. Look down at the river and watch
the paddlers go by in miniature! If it’s a good day you will
also have the privilege of spotting one of the many bald eagles
that call this area home. Have your lunch on the ledge or back
on the trail if heights are not your thing.
Additionally,
this is one of the few (and we mean) few areas that primitive
camping is allowed. So if you like be sure to pack a sleeping
bag and enjoy the night under the clear shy and bright stars.
