The Protestant Episcopal church of Honesdale, had it’s origin in
1832 at Forbes Hotel, now the site of Hotel Wayne. The lot now occupied by the present church building was given
by the D & H Canal Co. and a new church was erected there in September, 1834. Later, that church was replaced
by the present one which was completed in 1854. The parsonage next to the church was built in 1876. In the summer of 1879, a spire
was erected in the memory of Zenas H. Russell, one of the churches founders, by his family. In 1883, a tragic fire
destroyed the interior of the church. The parish house around the corner on Church Street was dedicated in 1950.
