29. THE WAYNE HOTEL

The Forbes House, built in 1827 by Charles Forbes, was Honesdale’s first lodging house. Its name was later changed to the Wayne County House, and it had a long succession of owners until 1891 when it was purchased by John H. Weaver, the President of the Borough Council. Weaver demolished the old Forbes House and built the present Hotel Wayne in 1892.
