8. CENTENNIAL BLOCK

In March, 1871, a young man, W. Jonas Katz, opened a small store in Honesdale. His wares consisted of $41.00 worth of merchandise he had bought from a salesman at the Allen House. His first day’s receipts totaled $31.14. It was a very good day. Jonas Katz was later joined by his brothers, Jacob and Samuel, and the firm became known as the Katz Brothers.

In 1876 the Katz Brothers and merchants operationg in this block built three storied structures in a joint venture, thus forming what was called the "Centennial Block" in honor of Ameraca's 100th birthday. While passing by, "look up" and enjoy the architecture resulting from the vision of these men.
