 The Forbes House, built in 1827 by Charles Forbes, was Honesdale’s first lodging house. Its name was later 

   

The millstone for the memorial was used in Col. Sylvanus Seely’s grist-mill which was located near the site of the monument. The Wayne County Daughters of the American Revolution erected the memorial in 1926.

 
  changed to the Wayne County House, and it had a long succession of owners until 1892 when it was purchased by John H. Weaver, the President of the Borough council. Weaver 
 

demolished  the old Forbes House and built the present Hotel Wayne in 1892.
